If you’re like most families spending time in Jackson this winter, you came to ski. Whether your kids are going out with you or joining a lesson packed day of ski school, they are bound to want a break. It’s winter and there is so much to do! With these three winter activities for kids, you won’t have to question if they are having fun this winter vacation.
Have an up close experience with this wild animal from the comfort of a horse drawn sleigh. At this National Elk Refuge there are thousands of Elk. Sleigh rides last 45min to one hour and departs every 30 minutes. They are open daily 10am to 4pm with kids under 5 riding for free! Learn about the migration of Elk to the Greater yellowstone area and the steps that have been taken to protect these magnificent creatures from an educated guide. If you are lucky you may even see other wildlife such as wolves, coyotes, foxes, bison, or eagles too!
It is here at the Snow King Ski Resort that you can find fun for the whole family. This smaller mountain resort hosts a downhill roller coaster (Cowboy Coasters) and tubing (King Tube). The Cowboy Coaster includes nearly one mile of downhill riding with twist, turns, and loops. Follow it up with hot laps on the groomed King Tube runs. Each costs an additional $20 or you can try all three downhill activities (skiing, tubing, and rollercoaster) for just $90! Endless fun for the whole family and a must do if bringing kids to Jackson Hole.
Skating around on some ice is a great way for your kids to stay active on a day off from skiing and maybe even try something new! You can twirl around at the indoor Snow King Sports and Events Center with public skating taking place at various times throughout the week. Or, for a more magical experience, explore the outdoor rink currently held at Town Square through February 29th. Open weekdays 4 to 9pm and weekends noon to 9pm. There will even be enchanting lights on the elk horn arches to light your way around the frozen pond.
