Those who frequent Jackson Hole will likely know what “Big Red” stands for. And when we say "Big Red opens for the 2019 summer season," there may be some folks out there who are not familiar with that term. Well, “Big Red” is the tram that takes you above the mountains to the top of Rendezvous Mountain at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. It is the passageway into summer, knowing you can access those big grandeur mountains with incredible Wyoming views and the freshest of mountain air.
If you have never ridden the tram at Jackson Hole, it is an experience and site not to be missed. The tram docking station is at the base of the mountain, just above the parking lots. Loading the tram feels similar to loading on the gondola. However, the excitement of loading the tram feels more as though you are about to load onto the most popular roller coaster ride. The thrill and anticipation have that same adrenaline feeling in the stomach.
In the winter, the line can be long, however it moves quick and the energy is high. Lots of good vibes surround the tram docking station as people are eager to embrace the mountain, views and legendary waffles at Corbet's Cabin above. In the summer, the lines are not as long and it is a nice place to catch some shade as you wait to load. Once you step onto this massive enclosed gondola car of sorts, the roller coaster feel starts to emerge as you ecstatically head up above the mountains. Views of the Tetons, Jackson Hole valley and beautiful ranch fields rest below.
It is a relatively quick ride, about 10 minutes. Before you know it, you will be unloading at the top of Rendezvous Mountain where you can blissfully enjoy the incredible views. Be sure to bring your appetite and try out the famous waffles at Corbet’s Cabin. Take a nice walk/hike and know when to get back to the Tram to load back down.
Big Red opens Saturday, May 18th for the summer season (through September) from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Be sure to add this to your summer Wyoming adventures. Bring the whole family and enjoy the legendary views.
